About the event

Presented by Media Mentors Australia’s Esther Coleman Hawkins.

Unless you’re an auteur or a hermit the truth is you’re going to be working in a team. And creative teams, where EVERYONE has a (creative) opinion can be the worst. But… and here’s the rub, to make great content we need to collaborate. So how do you lead a creative team so that everyone feels confident to bring their ideas, new ideas don’t get shouted down AND ideas come when it’s appropriate? Not just as the director gets ready to call action!

We’re taking the principles of leadership from our successful series of workshops and giving them a creative twist.

You’ll discover how to manage different (do we mean difficult?!) personalities, negotiate so that everyone feels like a winner, have difficult conversation and decide what kind of leader you’d like to be*.

This will be an interactive session allowing participants to focus on their own projects and experience in a practical way.

So if you’ve got a team to lead in the next few months this session will provide you with the guidance to be the best leader you can be.

*There’s no right answer here!

Esther Coleman Hawkins' Bio:

I’m a smart, creative and innovative producer with a wealth of worldwide programming experience. From the award-winning Revolution School for ABC1 to the Logie-nominated Last Chance Saloon, my goal is to bring intimate stories to life with insight and humour.

I’m also a long-standing, and enthusiastic, veteran of development. I thrive with the challenge of turning an exciting idea into a successful TV series. Some of my favourite success stories are Luke Warm Sex, Secrets of Our Suburbs and House of Food Obsessives.

Alongside two decades of program making, I love coaching and mentoring people both inside and beyond the media industry.  I’ve helped people kick start their projects and revamp, restart or change careers.  I’m driven by the fact that I love working and I think, given how much of our lives most us of spend at work, that we need to do something that meets our needs.
