Unlock the secrets of casting with top Casting Director Annie Murtagh-Monks. With impressive credits like The Heights, Rabbit-Proof Fence, and Last Train to Freo, Annie has just been nominated for the 2024 Casting Guild of Australia (CGA) Award for Best Casting in a Feature Film for the hit family movie Runt. She’ll be joining us to demystify the casting process and provide a “Casting Director’s eye view” of what makes actors stand out from the crowd.
In this session, Annie will draw on her many years of collaborating with film and TV production companies and directors to find onscreen talent, sharing insights on what productions seek in actors. Annie Murtagh-Monks’ bio:
With over 30 years in film and TV, Annie has made her mark as a casting director, acting coach, and intimacy coordinator. She was the Director of Skills and Engagement at the Film and Television Institute WA (2013-2016) and has helped to cast 42 major film and television projects, including Japanese Story, Last Train To Freo, Drift, and Claremont Murders. She has also been acting coach on 18 productions.
Annie also founded Perth Actors Collective and PAC Screen Workshops to train WA actors and directors and she co-founded the WA Chapter of Women in Film & TV and guest lectures at WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
Notably, her casting of the 60 episode series The Heights won the CGA’s Best Casting award and MEAA's Best Ensemble in a TV Drama. In 2022 and 2023, she served as an International Emmy juror and, this year, she has just been nominated for the CGA’s Best Casting of a Feature Film for Runt.
