About the event

Join us for an in-depth session with director Corrie Chen (The Artful Dodger, Bad Behaviour, Good Cop/Bad Cop) as she talks about the career and craft learnings she’s gained from working as a successful director of episodic TV.

We’ll be hearing from Corrie on how she approaches each new production, from the “nitty gritty” of the director’s role (breaking down a script, blocking and rehearsals) to the importance of collaboration and building crucial relationships with 1st ADs, editors, script supervisors, standby props, and camera operators.

Corrie will also talk about screen as a cultural mirror that has shaped every aspect of how she’s seen her identity while trying to find "a place of belonging” in an often fickle and unforgiving industry - and how she’s been able to find her “tribe".

Corrie says, "If you love television, episodic TV directing is quite simply a dream job. I have a short attention span and have been brought up with the immigrant work ethic of a shark – keep moving or you’ll die – so the pace, energy, and challenges of television making satiates a lot of my desires. It’s also a job where you are constantly living in a world of worst-case scenarios, juggling a collision of circumstances where the director is at the intersection of dreams and compromise. I never saw myself as the most talented student at film school, but what I lacked in talent I made up for in discipline!”
